Crocheted by Payton
Crocheted by Payton is my passion project and side hustle. Started in 2022, this small business sells handmade crocheted plushies of all shapes and sizes. Generating five-figure earnings each year, I attend 5-10 vendor events per year along with multiple pop-ups at UNC-CH through Student-Made UNC.
This has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I take something as simple as yarn and turn it into heirloom-quality stuffed animals that children and adults alike find joy in.
The experience has also been an educational one. As a one-woman show, I’ve had to learn how to do everything: branding, marketing, networking and navigating sales tax and other legal business requirements.
No matter where life takes me, I know that crocheting is something I’ll always do. It’s my creative outlet that provides relaxation in the midst of a busy world. I love knowing that something I make with my hands has the power to make someone a little happier.
